'ShyGuy' Not For the Faint Hearted
Not For The Faint Hearted Collection by ShyGuy
The force behind SHYGUY is Naomi Wallens, a British born, self-taught artist who originally followed a conventional academic schooling eventually bagging herself a Business qualification; a prerequisite for a career in the Corporate World. Feeling disillusioned and empty with her pre-conditioned life, this fueled her ever rebellious inner self to go on a courageous and often painful journey of self-discovery.
Once SHYGUY had taken to the streets to work within the graphic framework of fantasy and personal experience, unlocking her passions, an avalanche of creativity soon followed... Naomi built a world of Design meets Art wonders including more than 40 pieces of Art, providing a disruptive reaction to the more orthodox products of contemporary Objet D’Art.
The vast body of work, spanning her own body part sculptures, neon, street art and statement hand painted furniture debuted at her first Solo Show; ‘Behind Closed Doors’ in 2017.
Naomi directly yet intentionally makes use of the female form using her own body in many of her pieces and SHYGUY often creates characters in the stories that she sets to tell.
More recent work includes sculptures all formed from a cast that Naomi took of her own Derriere; this functional, stylish and tongue-in-cheek range began as a lamp collection and now includes vases and plant potters. They reference Allen Jones and are as playful as they are provocative.
From her London Studio she is working on her next body of work; Entitled ‘The Social Podium’, to be debuted at the Saatchi Gallery, London, September 2020. The new work pays homage to her alter ego whilst reflecting the Society that we live in today. Giving her body part sculptures a new and ever evolving narrative, whilst empowering a more meaningful connection with ourselves and each other.
